Abstract

The effect of cashew nut meal on the performance and nutrient digestibility in rabbits were studied.

The rabbits were maintained on five diets (control diet with full-fat soyabean (FFSB) as main source of protein, 25% replacement of FFSB with cashew nut meal; 50% replacement of FFSB with CNM (Cashew nut meat); 75% replacement of FFSB with CNM and 100% replacement of FFSB with CNM).

All the animals were supplied with water ad libitum. The body weight gain feed intake and growth rate were determined over eight weeks period.

The weight gain of rabbits in the treatment 1 – 3 were better (P < 0.05) than those of other treatment with treatment 3 (50% replacement level) gave the best performance in term of weight gain. Nutrient digestibility of the rabbit shows a non-significant effect (P > 0.05) between the experiment diet.
